HE Guo Sengkun has full confidence in the Kuantan Industrial Park

Kuala Lumpur (April 17):  H.E. Guo Sengkun, Secretary of the CPC committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region who led a Chinese delegation on a study tour of the proposed Kuantan Industrial Park, has expressed his optimism on the joint-venture project as he was  impressed with the prospect and potential of Kuantan area. The delegation included top Chinese government officials and business leaders.

He noted that the Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib bin Tun Razak had commended the speed with which the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (QIP) was completed and he called it the “Qinzhou speed”.  He stressed, however, that with the full support of the Malaysian government, the “Kuantan speed” can also be engaged to complete the Kuantan Industrial Park.

He was speaking at the soft launch of the 9th China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO) and the investment forum of QIP. He pledged that Guangxi, as the Chinese partner of the Kuantan Industrial Park, would strive to implement the agreement reached between leaders of the two countries through close coordination and cooperation to speed up the development of the Kuantan Industrial Park.

“We will encourage enterprises from Guangxi and China to invest in the industrial park. In this respect, we will work out a time-table and a schedule of projects in order to speed up its accomplishment,” he said.

H.E. Guo pointed out that in the year 2011, a total of 240,000 tourists from Malaysia visited Guangxi while bilateral trade between Guangxi and Malaysia amounted to US$300 million which was an indication of the close co-operation between Guangxi and Malaysia and the increasingly important role it has been playing in China-Asean cooperation.

On future prospect, he said there would be new opportunities arising in the co-operation between Guangxi and Malaysia. The support given by the leaders of the two Governments in the establishment of the Qinzhou and Kuantan industrial parks would not only strengthen the friendly ties between the two countries but also build up greater political trust. In this sense, it is of great significance to both countries.

H.E. Guo proposed new three areas of co-operation between China and Malaysia in order to achieve a win-win situation:

(1)  To jointly organize the China-Asean Expo and China-Asean Business and Investment Summit. We welcome Malaysian enterprises to participate in the Chinese expo to be organized on September 21 and invite Malaysian companies to set up branches in Nanning in order to widen the area and also to provide new platforms of co-operation.

(2)To make joint efforts to speed up the development of both the QIP and the Kuantan Industrial Park to make them models of our co-operation and also an example of China’s pragmatism.

(3)To make joint efforts in the development of transport networks and to push for greater co-operation in air and sea transport, in logistics and information technology development and in skill training, with the aim of promoting a full-scale cooperation to facilitate the movements of people, goods and services, capital and information.

Kuantan speed: H.E. Guo Sengkun is optimistic that with the support and assistance of the Malaysian government, the Kuantan Industrial Park could be developed rapidly by engaging the “Kuantan speed”.
