On August 19, a Chinese delegation headed by Dr. Zhao Xiaodi, Director General of the Economic Information Department, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) paid a visit to the Malaysia-China Business Council and was received by MCBC director Datuk David Chua.
The Chinese delegation included Mr. Ruan Haibin, Deputy Director of Market Research Division and Mr. Tang Ning, Project Manager of Project Development Division.
On the Malaysian side were MCBC director Mr. Quek Ngee Meng and Technical Advisor Dato’ Ir. Fong Tian Yong.
The primary objective of Dr. Zhao’s visit to Malaysia was to promote several major trade promotion events to be held in China this year or in 2014, especially the 8th Chinese Enterprises Outbound Investment Conference to be held in mid-April 2014.
According to Dr. Zhao, the campaign to encourage Chinese enterprises to invest overseas is now into its second five-year programme. He said since the Asean region, especially Malaysia, was a major target area, it was important to understand the investment environment and latest development in Malaysia in order to encourage more Chinese investors to put their money in this country.
Datuk David Chua said that China’s policy to encourage Chinese enterprises to go global and invest overseas had been in the limelight for the past few years and it was now moving into its second phase for full implementation.
He said it was important for Chinese investors not only to explore good investment opportunity but also to look for suitable business areas and partnerships for better returns.
On Malaysia’s investment environment and recent developments, he highlighted several areas for potential investments, included infrastructure development such as railway and bridge constructions, as well as healthcare equipment, tourism and higher education.
These are potential investment areas which could be explored fully by Chinese entrepreneurs for mutual benefits, he added.
