SERI KEMBANGAN: There will be a new wave of Chinese investments in Malaysia next year, says China’s Ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian.
The positive picture is a reflection of the eagerness of Chinese companies to realise their ambition in Malaysia, said the envoy.
“The China-Malaysia relationship has been setting a model for all bilateral relations for other countries.
“For 45 years, our relationship has featured mutual respect, equality and win-win cooperation. Malaysia is by no means a small country but a respectable, trustworthy and important partner whom we are more than willing to work with, ” he said at the Malaysia-China Friendship Association (PPMC) dinner at Wisma Hua Zong here yesterday in conjunction with the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.
Bai Tian said the countries have a solid foundation, large potential and bright prospects.
“The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) and revived Bandar Malaysia projects, along with Malaysia’s export of whole frozen durian and palm oil to China, are a boost to the China-Malaysia cooperation, ” he added.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke called on Chinese companies to invest in and develop industrial areas along the ECRL corridors in Malaysia’s east coast.
He also hopes the visa requirements between both countries will be relaxed one day.
Loke also announced a government allocation of RM50,000 for PPMC to continue its efforts in building closer bilateral ties.
The Malaysian government’s special envoy to China Tan Kok Wai said Malaysia and China need to be actively cooperating with societal and non-governmental organisations in carrying out activities that promote public diplomacy.
He also said China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner in the past 10 years, and this trend is foreseen to continue.
PPMC president Datuk Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan said the association was honoured and thankful for the presence of many distinguished guests representing various organisations at the dinner held every five years.
“Our 45 years of friendship and cooperation is one we can all be truly proud of.
“It has brought mutual benefit and cemented a strong bond of partnership from government to government, people to people and business to business.
“Going forward, the Malaysian government has given commitment to further strengthen what has been built over the years and to explore new frontiers of cooperation, ” said Abdul Majid, who is also Malaysian Investment Development Authority chairman.
The event also saw the launch of a book titled 45 Years of Enduring Friendship.
Also present was Star Media Group chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow.
