MCBC Chairman’s message for 2018

2018

As we embark into 2018, the eventful year of 2017 is full of milestones for Malaysia-China relationship and developments.

The successful conclusion of the 19th  National  Congress of CPC remains the focus of world’s attention in observing its visions and directions in particular to the well-beings of its people and the economic cooperation model along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries.

Malaysia as the regional centre along the Belt and Road remains the strategic partner of China in deepening the ties and cooperation in all fronts. Most projects facilitated by MCBC’s at the inception stage are bearing fruits now such as the Malaysia-China Twin Industrial Parks of China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (CMQIP) , Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) and Xiamen University Malaysia Campus(XMUM). The alliance Steel (M) built at the cost of RM 2.5 Billion will start operation by early 2018. The first phase of CMQIP of 7.87 sq km is nearing completion with 52 investors invested a total of RMB 28 billion. The first phase of XMUM with built up area of  260,000 sq meter was physically completed and the second phase has also started . With the total student enrolment of 2660, it is symbolic of the People-to-People Connectivity under the Belt and Road Initiative.

MCBC was playing a key role in linking up Alibaba on E-commerce subsequent to MCBC’s Malaysia-China Digital Economy forum at the end of 2016. Jack Ma accepted the post as Advisor of Digital Economy to Malaysia and participated twice on Digital Free Trade Zone events in Malaysia. MCBC’s effort in facilitating Alibaba and MDEC into realising DFTZ has added another milestone to Malaysian pride.

The Joint Venture ceremony of Proton Holding and Geely Holding Group in 2017 has created a new wave of economic excitement for the automobile industry. Behind the scene, MCBC started facilitating both parties way back in 2014. The conclusion of the agreement between two car makers marks a new economic model of cooperation of national significance.

Let’s hope the year 2018 will see more deepening economic cooperation and ties between Malaysia and PR China. MCBC will continue to play its leading role in facilitating trade and investment between Malaysia and China and enhancing the relationship between the two nations.

Wishing all a Happy New Year.
